Careys Manor Hotel Hampshire

the spa pool at Carey’s Manor HotelThe recommendation I am asked for more frequently than almost any other is a good spa. This is probably because hotel spas vary enormously from a couple of sweaty treatment rooms and an overheated pool no bigger than Pavarotti’s bathtub to lofty purpose-built extensions clad in more mosaic tiles than ancient Rome offering a treatment menu so long that reading it is a mini workout in itself. Such has been demand for this modern method of assisted relaxation that some British hotel spas now bring Bali to the Home Counties by approximating the minimalist exotic charm of an Aman resort. Those of us who cannot afford to fly halfway round the world can now try Asian-influenced body treatments and healing therapies in Zen treatment rooms from Hyde Park to Hampshire. Careys Manor an 80-room four-star in the New Forest is just such a place. Its SenSpa is easily spotted because two oriental painted wooden figures stand sentry at the entrance and we can hear that floaty glockenspiel music which has no beginning no end and no middle either… I’m only semi-conscious sipping green tea which is available on tap. Through the window we can see the spa’s own little restaurant the Zen Garden. It’s a little bit of Hampshire which is forever Thailand. · 01590 623551.

In Thailand the US-based company will launch a new hotel brand by the middle of next year aimed at the three-star segment while moving up its two existing brands – Best Western to four stars and Best Western Premier to four-and-a-half to five stars. The three-tier system aims to strengthen the company's market position and its ability to serve prospective customers in all major segments. Glenn de Souza vice president for Asian operations said the hotel operator would focus on Asia with the strong ambition to increase its hotels from the current 106 with 20000 rooms to about 200 with 50000 rooms by 2010. Best Western's 4200-plus hotels in 80 countries around the world already attract more than 400000 guests each night. Thailand is one of the key locations in the region for the company's expansion plans de Souza said.
