Plane crash: ver 30 victims to be identified
Hindu – Sep 20, 2007
20 (AP): The bodies of more than 30 victims of the plane crash on Thailand’s resort island of Phuket remain unidentified because they were so badly burned officials said on Wednesday. The head of the plane’s parent company meanwhile defended the flight’s pilot and urged observers not to jump to conclusions about what caused the ne-Two-Go flight to crash Sunday. Thai officials have pointed to wind shear sudden changes in wind direction or intensity as a possible cause and said the flight’s pilot ignored a warning of such conditions during his descent. “There is a lot of speculation out there (concerning the crash). That is not good” rient-Thai Airlines President Kajit Habnanonda said in an interview with The Associated Press. “We need to wait for the experts. ” The budget flight was carrying 123 passengers and seven crew from Bangkok to Phuket when it skidded off a runway while landing in driving wind and rain catching fire and killing 89 people… Burned luggage was stacked in one corner and the smell of smoke still lingered in the air. Rama Yade the French minister of state responsible for foreign affairs and human rights visited the makeshift morgue at the end of one of the runaways where she laid flowers. She then met relatives of the dead at a nearby hotel to brief them on efforts to identify at least five French victims. Survivors have described how the aircraft lurched up then down hitting the tarmac hard. The plane skidded off the runway breaking up and catching fire as it plowed through a short retaining wall. Investigators have said wind shear a sudden change in either wind speed or direction in an aircraft’s flight path that can destabilize a plane was among the possible causes of the crash. Transport Ministry officials said the pilot Indonesian Arief Mulyadi was aware of conditions but ignored a warning from the flight tower on wind shear and landed anyway.
Vietnam on a luxury budget

f course I was forgetting Vietnam’s incredible resilience and determination. It has long since recovered from the war and is keen now to attract upmarket tourism and to pitch itself as ‘the new Thailand’. Like Thailand it has glorious beaches charming scenery and brilliant food even better in the street cafes than in the hotel restaurants. The currency sounds expensive you ask the price of some tourist item and reel back in horror when you hear it is 100000 dong but then you realise that means under $8 and anyway you are meant to haggle. Actually most tourist places don’t bother with dong preferring dollars but I got fond of my dong. I spent one of the most blissful mornings of my life on the South China Sea off Nha Trang lying on a mattress under a white awning on a creaking fishing boat while the boatmen trailed lines in the water.

Falcone a musician who used to perform as a one-man band at a Dubai hotel was travelling to the resort island when the ill-fated Thailand budget airlines ne-Two-Go skidded off the runway.
