Public Health Minister Pinij Charusombat said the move hoped to be enforced by end of January is part of the Ministry’s policy that emphasises disease prevention. The number one cause of death in Thailand at the moment is cancer which had claimed 45759 people a year or five every hour. Smokers and passive smokers constitute one major cause of death and there are currently 11. 3 million smokers in Thailand.

Police said militants used mobile phones to detonate three bombs in Sungai Kolok. The Plaza Hotel and the Genting Hotel were damaged in the blasts. The tourist was wounded in the stomach by shrapnel. At about the same time militants gunned down and killed Sergeant Pholawat Nootapong 48 a police officer in Nongchik.
