I hear that man is good but how long is the flight there? Also we would prefer separate rooms I’m aware that this won’t be a cheap holiday! C Howells Surrey A. With a history and culture as exotic as its rugged landscape and pristine coastline man is an excellent choice for your winter-sun holiday. A slew of luxury hotels has opened up on the Indian cean shore of this ancient land in the past few years which means spa treatments and well-supervised water sports will not be hard to find. man remains as yet free from the overdevelopment found in say neighbouring Egypt or Dubai. What’s more there is a time difference of only four hours meaning jet lag is not too bad (for comparison Florida is five time zones away and Thailand is seven). A new non-stop flight from Gatwick to man’s capital Muscat started in November. man Air (0870 7707319; www… A slew of luxury hotels has opened up on the Indian cean shore of this ancient land in the past few years which means spa treatments and well-supervised water sports will not be hard to find. man remains as yet free from the overdevelopment found in say neighbouring Egypt or Dubai. I adore flying; I’m trying to cut down now but when the plane goes above the clouds I feel I’ve come home. I can happily spend a 10-hour flight with my nose glued to the window. Worst travel experience? I could say being locked out of my hotel room in Rome naked and having to go down to reception in the lift wrapped in a carpet to get a key to let myself back in. But the worst experience must be nearly being killed a couple of times once in Thailand by two men in a boat and the other time in India when we were all nearly eaten alive by our own private mob. Not funny not even afterwards. Worst holiday? When friendships fall apart. I was once invited to stay with somebody who I thought was a friend but she forgot to tell me that she hated me… I can happily spend a 10-hour flight with my nose glued to the window. PGA European Tour – EuropeanTour – News Story
European Tour – Dec 22, 2007
He leads the way in the Multiple Winners Category compiled so assiduously by Steve Doughty The European Tour’s Statistician followed by six who each won twice including that man Harrington and of course Rose. Harrington warmed up for his pen victory by winning The Irish pen. His victory at the Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort in County Limerick was the first home win since John ’Leary highlighted his own career in 1982. The other double champions were: Ernie Els who followed victory in the South African Airways pen at Humewood Golf Club Port Elizabeth with an historic seventh success in the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth Club Surrey England; Henrik Stenson the tall elegant Swede who prevailed in the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club Dubai and the WGC – Accenture Match Play at the Gallery Golf Club Tucson Arizona; Finland’s Mikko Ilonen who scored the most geographically split double of the year with victories in the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia pen – his debut win – at Damai Indah Golf and Country Club Indonesia and then confirmed his emergence from the pack a little further north in the Scandinavian Masters at Arlandastad Golf in Stockholm Sweden; and Lee Westwood that most resolute of Englishmen who took the titles at Valle Romano pen de Andalucia at Aloha Golf Club Spain and The Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry England. While winning more than once in a season represents sensational achievement winning for the first time on Tour is arguably the more significant move. Clearly Ilonen takes the honours here with his brace of titles but 17 other players also took the most relevant step of their careers – a EuropeanTour record for a single season – when they broke through the toughest barrier of all. So step forward please…Korea’s YE Yang (HSBC Champions Sheshan International Golf Club Shanghai China) Spain’s Jos?anuel Lara (UBS Hong Kong pen Hong Kong Golf Club Fanling) Australia’s Nathan Green (Blue Chip New Zealand pen Gulf Harbour Country Club Auckland) Spain’s Alvaro Quiros (Alfred Dunhill Championship Leopard Creek Mpumalanga South Africa) Argentina’s Ariel Canete (Joburg pen Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club South Africa) South Africa’s Anton Haig (Johnnie Walker Classic Blue Canyon Country Club Phuket Thailand) China’s Liang Wenchong (Clariden Leu Singapore Masters Laguna National Golf Club Singapore) Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat (TCL Classic Yalong Bay Golf Club Sanya Hainan Island China) Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik (Madeira Islands pen BPI Santo da Serra Madeira Portugal) Spanish amateur Pablo Martin (Estoril pen de Portugal Quinta da Marinha itavos Golfe Estoril Portugal) Spain’s Carl Suneson (PEN DE SAINT MER presented by NEUFLIZE BC Aa Saint mer Golf Club Lumbres France) England’s Graeme Storm (pen de France ALSTM Le Golf National Paris France) Argentina’s Andres Romero (The Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe Gut Kaden Hamburg Germany) England’s Ross Fisher (The KLM pen Kennemer Golf and Country Club Zandvoort The Netherlands) Denmark’s Mads Vibe-Hastrup (pen de Madrid Valle Romano Real Sociedad H?ca Espa? While the year’s lowest rounds were compiled by Germany’s Martin Kaymer (ce?co Victoria GolfClub) The 2007 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Nirat (Yalong Bay Golf Club) and Westwood (GolfClub Gut L?henhof) all three returning 11 under par 61s it is how a man finishes rather than how he starts that counts in this contrarily challenging game. Therefore step forward England’s Steve Webster and take a bow for the eight under par 64 which swept him to an emotional win in the Portugal Masters at the ce?co Victoria Golf Club at Vilamoura and which took the honours ahead of the respective seven under par 65s of Paul Casey (Abu Dhabi Golf Championship Abu Dhabi Golf Club) Gonzalo Fernandez-Casta?Telecom Italia pen Castello di Tolcinasco Golf and Country Club Milan) Els (Humewood Golf Club) and that man Westwood again (this time at The Belfry).
