Following a global study the utrigger Enterprises Group worth more than US$1 billion (Bt31 billion) has decided that Asia holds the "greatest promise" for its business Edmonstone – who is spearheading its drive in Southeast Asia – said. The chain's first Thai project is a 396-room hotel in West Sands beach estate at Mai Kao in Phuket. The five-star hotel opens next year and will be a core component of the project backed by Central & City Holdings a venture with major shareholders such as Sir Terry Leahy chief executive of Tesco and Paul Mercer a former Tesco veteran. Central & City managing director Barry King told The Nation that the 121-rai property which is worth Bt6 billion ranks as one of the island's most environmentally responsible undertakings.

Justice Department's latest charges against Bout and his accomplice 46-year-old Briton Andrew Smulian include a deal to sell and deliver surface-to-air missiles helicopters and rocket launchers to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

That may be but Diane Redfern a British Columbia writer who tracks the solo travel market in her newsletter Connecting: Solo Travel News and on the website cstn. org says she’s seen little in the way of price breaks for singles particularly in North America. “The cruise lines and hotels are designing accommodations for two or even four people and they’re still asking for a single supplement” she says. “What has changed is the number of organizations that are trying to attract single travelers. But even some of those entities are simply engaging in what Redfern calls “creative marketing” and aren’t truly catering to solo travelers. “What singles really want is a single-occupancy room at a single-occupancy price. They don’t want to pay more than two people sharing a room… “Many are time-deprived professional women who don’t have the time to gather traveling companions. r they’re booking (last-minute). ” Gutsy Women Travel’s single-supplement charges range from a low of $20 a day on trips to Argentina and Chile to about $100 a day for itineraries in Thailand depending on the deals the company has negotiated with local hotels. Among others offering incentives to unpaired travelers: •Tauck World Discovery (tauck. com) annually waives or discounts the single supplement on some trips. This year 54 departures (some already sold out) are discounted with savings of up to 33%. The itineraries include land and cruise trips in the USA Canada and Europe.
