Now isn’t that hospitality to the max? I’m so pleased by the hotel’s attention to detail and the personalized approach to every service they offer their guests as I continue to ask myself “Why didn’t I know of this hotel earlier?” Having discovered this “gem” in Bangkok’s accommodation industry I’ve decided to share it with all of you because something this good has to be enjoyed by many and should not be a secret anymore. Siam Niramit Aside from the usual shopping splurges and eating binges my son and I wanted to try something new during this trip. The hotel concierge highly recommended what she called “the must-see stage spectacular of Thailand. Siam Niramit is a very colorful and highly elaborate visual and musical montage of the history and culture of the enchanted kingdom of Siam the former name of Thailand performed on stage with the most modern light sound and projection equipment by 150 talented actors using 500 exquisite costumes and supported by a backstage crew of 100. The stage 65 meters wide and 40 meters deep is one of the biggest in the world and has in fact landed in the Guinness Book of World Records. The beautiful and elaborate scenes depicted on stage use over 100 set pieces the largest number in the world of entertainment with awesome special effects like having a real river appear all of a sudden on stage or real rain pouring down on the actors thunder lightning Thai angels flying through the clouds etc. The 80-minute extravaganza is performed in a 2000-seat theater after guests partake of a sumptuous buffet dinner at the adjacent restaurant the cost of which is included in the price of the entrance ticket.

Last Breakfast in Cambodia
New York Times – Apr 26, 2008
Years later I learned that I had been looking in the wrong direction. The helicopters had flown westward toward the Gulf of Thailand. And I was looking east. I was 30 minutes late. My life was going to change forever. Everyone in the city was in a very somber mood… But all were looking north waiting for something. They looked fearful. I spent all day in a temporary emergency room in the Hotel Le Royal doing what I could to help. I came out for fresh air and saw the Khmer Rouge being welcomed. People seemed genuinely happy that the war had ended. Later that day the first day of “peace” I and 15 of my family members left our home after the Khmer Rouge had ordered all cities immediately emptied and walked to Pochentong the village where my siblings and I were born. ur house was occupied by strangers so we went to the temple.
