Sven Goran Eriksson meets Benfica officials
Telegraph.co.uk – May 8, 2008
All of them – Sven Scolari Mourinho – they are all great coaches great managers. Eriksson’s meeting with president Luis Felipe Vieira and captain Rui Costa from a club he successfully managed during two spells in the 80s and early 90s however is the clearest signal yet that the Swede accepts his time at City is up. The meeting was filmed by Portuguese broadcaster SIC in a hotel in Manchester where the former England boss has been living since his move to the club last summer. The club refused to confirm anybody from Benfica had met with Eriksson or offered him a contract. Benfica spokesman Ricardo Maia said: “We will not comment on any suggestions of a future Benfica coach now. “Whether someone is or is not in Manchester to try to persuade Eriksson we have nothing to say about it. Eriksson has been linked with Benfica since Antonio Camacho quit after declaring himself “unable to motivate the squad”… Eriksson is set to take charge of his final Premier League match for City when they travel to Middlesbrough on Sunday. He is expected to guide them on their end-of-season tour to Asia even though he will be axed at the end of the month. In reply to questions posed by the Thai media asking whether Eriksson and City would still travel to Thailand as part of the tour City spokesman Paul Tyrell said: “The media speculation (about Eriksson’s fate) does not affect the visit. Mr Eriksson will be attending. City will arrive in Thailand on May 14 to open a club store before facing a Thailand Premier All-Stars on May 17. The team will take a quick trip to the resort of Pattaya before leaving on May 20 for two matches in Hong Kong against a South China XI and Italian giants Juventus.
