Wares line every surface and insome cases rise like skyscrapers right up to the roof balancepermitting. Delicate silver embedded with gems wink from heavyglass cases home made sa (mulberry paper) as fine as wisps ofsilk carry intricate textures that defy modern production whilecoloured crystal chandeliers twinkle in the wind sending shards ofrainbow light onto muted walls painted with milk. This is a veritable shoppers’ dream all within easy walkingdistance of the city’s best hotels none more chic than the newKantary Bay Hotel Chiang Mai where we stayed in unsurpassedcomfort. pening only last December Kantary Bay Chiang Mai offerstravellers the chance to linger longer with self containedapartments accommodating well-heeled visitors for months or evenpermanently if they so choose. The hotel’s main restaurant is the Nimman Bar and Grilloffering a mix of authentic Thai and western specialitiesincluding steak imported from Australia. Staff buzz around likebees constantly fussing to ensure every five star whim isattended. And while it would be easy to stay and be nurtured the mist-covered mountains that frame the province beckon exploration… The night market operates at a more frenetic pace but buoyed bya slightly different reputation. The northern craftsman while adeptat producing originals are also superior at producing fakes.  IF YU G:Thai Airways has connecting flights to Chiang Mai from Bangkok andflies daily between Bangkok and Australian ports. Quarter-finals. All kickoffs 0145 Thailand time
Bangkok Post – Jun 19, 2008
The Russians join group winners Spain – who came from behind to beat the defending champions Greece 2-1 in Salzburg – in the round of the last eight. Roman Pavlyuchenko and Andrei Arshavin scored the goals that put the Russians through while Ruben de la Red and Daniel Guiza scored to give Spain a come-back victory against the defending champions who had gone ahead through Angelos Charisteas. The Russian victory sets up an intriguing quarter-final for their Dutch coach Guus Hiddink who will face the Netherlands in the round of the last eight while Spain face Italy. The Swedes went into their match in Innsbruck needing only a draw to advance to the last eight but they were thoroughly outplayed by a slick Russian team growing in confidence after their opening match defeat by Spain… ” Earlier on Wednesday Swiss police announced that they had arrested 12 people with stolen tickets at Tuesday’s crucial Group C match between Italy and France. It was later revealed that those arrested had not stolen the tickets themselves but bought them on the black-market. They had earlier been stolen from the Italian team hotel. Also on Wednesday Europe’s governing body Uefa said that Turkish goalkeeper Volkan Demirel had been suspended for two games after being sent off in his side’s 3-2 victory against the Czech Republic. He will miss his side’s quarter-final clash against Croatia in Vienna on Friday and also Turkey’s semi-final game if they beat the Croats. Uefa also fined the Turkish federation 44000 Swiss francs ($42000) because Volkan sat on the bench after being red-carded because they had 25 non-accredited people in the changing rooms and because Turkish fans had attempted to rush onto the field. Uefa confirmed that the Turkish federation had appealed both against the suspension and the fine but that a date for the appeal had not yet been finalized.

And that as anyone who has partaken of Immi’s handiwork will tell you is saying something! She was that good the chef at the Haadson ResortFirst beautiful Khaolak as pointed out last week two hours North of Phuket by road through the most beautiful scenery on an excellent road. The resort we stayed at was the Haadson Resort newly re-built after the terrible tsunami of three years ago. The Haadson is a well-presented resort hotel comprising individual cottages or villas with a large double bedroom a huge and very well-appointed bathroom and a back veranda to sit upon and feast your eyes on the lush greenery that is everywhere. The resort is located right on the Andaman Sea which at this time of year is as calm as a lake its azure-blue waters inviting in the extreme. To the brave that is not cowards like I who are petrified with the sea of depths where they cannot see through to the bottom. But while the excellent swimming pool sufficed for me it would be difficult to find a better beach than the one fronting the Haadson Resort. We discovered too that in addition to its otherwise high standards of room comfort and location the Haadson has an excellent chef: not only did she serve up some of the most delicious (and delicately flavoured) Thai food I have ever had the pleasure of eating she made up omelettes almost as good as my friend Immi… To the brave that is not cowards like I who are petrified with the sea of depths where they cannot see through to the bottom. In 2004 Barton was fined a club record six weeks’ wages for an attack on team-mate Jamie Tandy. During the players’ Christmas party Barton stubbed out a cigar in Tandy’s eye drawing widespread condemnation from inside and outside the club. Although the player vowed to change his ways he ended up in more trouble during City’s pre-season tour of Thailand in the summer of 2005. In a hotel bar in Bangkok the Huyton-born player physically attacked a schoolboy Everton fan and had to be restrained by team-mate Richard Dunne. Barton was subsequently sent home in disgrace and fined eight weeks’ wages with Pearce admitting at the time he was tempted to allow the local police to take him away and throw him into prison. Having stood by him so publicly Pearce then had the support thrown back in his face at the end of the following January transfer deadline when he slapped in a request to leave the club angered by what he perceived to be an insulting contract offer. Barton eventually made his peace with the club and signed a four-year contract last summer.
